2 Korintus 10:2

10:2 now I ask that when I am present I may not have to be bold with the confidence that (I expect) I will dare to use against some who consider us to be behaving ¹  according to human standards. ² 

2 Korintus 10:7

10:7 You are looking at outward appearances. ³  If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should reflect on this again: Just as he himself belongs to Christ, so too do we.

2 Korintus 10:11

10:11 Let such a person consider this: What we say ⁴  by letters when we are absent, we also are in actions when we are present.

2 Korintus 11:5

11:5 For I consider myself not at all inferior to those “super-apostles.” ⁵ 

2 Korintus 12:6

12:6 For even if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I would be telling ⁶  the truth, but I refrain from this so that no one may regard ⁷  me beyond what he sees in me or what he hears from me,

[10:2]  ² tn Grk “according to the flesh.”

[10:7]  ³ tn The phrase is close to a recognized idiom for judging based on outward appearances (L&N 30.120). Some translators see a distinction, however, and translate 2 Cor 10:7a as “Look at what is in front of your eyes,” that is, the obvious facts of the case (so NRSV).

[10:11]  ⁴ tn Grk “what we are in word.”

[11:5]  ⁵ tn The implicit irony in Paul’s remark is brought out well by the TEV: “I do not think that I am the least bit inferior to those very special so-called ‘apostles’ of yours!”

[11:5]  sn The ‘super-apostles’ refers either (1) to the original apostles (the older interpretation) or (2) more probably, to Paul’s opponents in Corinth, in which case the designation is ironic.

[12:6]  ⁶ tn Or “speaking.”

[12:6]  ⁷ tn Or “may think of.”
